Decisive decisions

We had mice in our apartment, so our maintenance guy put out glue traps. We caught one (a mouse, not a maintenance guy.  Although we did give him a hard time about leaving), and what followed was the most extensive and morbid discussion of how to kill a mouse quickly and humanly. We finally decided on the brutal but quick hammer and a plastic bag and when we picked it up, it had starved to death.

Hammer and a plastic bag? You, medical students with knowledge of a zillion ways things die, and probably extensive lab experience where you annihilated hundreds of mice in experiments? And that's your solution? Laaaaame. Neither humane and painless, nor creative.

EXACTLY the conversation I was having with three-assholed Dan from UCH.

You might be interested in knowing that the fix is to reunite 13 female, twenty-something housemates who have not seen one another in 4 months in the general vicinity of the vermin. Repeated, annoying squeals at high volume apparently does the trick…although probably not more humane than your chosen method.

PS It is a great comedic talent that can make a hammer blow to the head while inside a baggie humorous.

I think it's our knowledge of all of the ways one can die that makes us realize just how sweet a fatal blow to the head actually is. Stay tuned for more on Ways to Die. It's in the works (meaning my head) and I'll post it soon (meaning before I'm 40).

Julie, i've been subject to that. It is not humane. Not even a little bit. And thanks.

Your tweet on the girl with the "tips on..." was hilarious. And while I know you try to keep this blog med-related, you are smart - you can modify slightly and work the med angle in.

By the way, that was my daughter you were observing.
